Houstonians lace up to help Catholic schools

HOUSTON [SIGN UP: Get headlines and breaking news sent to you]

Yesterday, parents and kids put on their running shoes to show their support for Catholic schools. Supporters clapped as runners crossed the finish line on the University of Houston campus. Our very own Don Nelson hosted the event.

Financial troubles have already forced the archdiocese to close four schools. Holy Name Catholic school, St. Philip Neri, St. Charles Borromeo and Our Mother of Mercy will close their doors at the end of this school year.

The archdiocese blames low attendance and high maintenance costs for the closures.
