One adult male and an infant were transported to Ben Taub General Hospital where they were pronounced dead. Their ages and identities are pending verification by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
According to police, witnesses said the man was driving a silver Buick in an aggressive manner northbound on the Gulf Freeway when he lost control of the vehicle and struck a guardrail. The vehicle then swerved into the path of an 18-wheeler.
The driver and an infant passenger were transported to the hospital. A female passenger in the Buick suffered serious injuries and was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The 18-wheeler driver was uninjured.
Traffic was backed up for miles during the clean up. The investigation is continuing.
