The bridge is slated to cross Memorial Drive by South Picnic Drive and the railroad tracks on the west end of the park. City leaders and the Memorial Park Conservatory broke ground on the project Friday morning. It's part of $10 million in improvements for the park that include a visitor's center. The mayor says he's seen problems around Memorial Drive and the bridge will make things safer.
"I've been one of those individuals who's had to both dodge cars as a runner and saw people in near-miss situations," he said.
When it's finished, the Living Bridge will have plants on it, making it look like it's part of the park.
