An 11-year-old girl who was playing around trains last week learned about that harsh reality after having her legs severed.

Yesterday, we went along with the Harris County Constable Precinct 4 deputies on a routine train patrol. Even with all of the warnings about trains, less than five minutes after we got there, three cars crossed the railroad tracks illegally.

"I don't think most of the public understands in the case of the trains, the size of them and how long it takes for them to stop," said Ronnie Glazer with Harris County Precinct 4.

Nationwide, the number of accidents involving trains is down, but deputies say there are still people who don't realize how dangerous trains can be.
