Danger in the EZ tag lane

Tollroad authorities say it happens at least once a day, sometimes more. Cars just stopping in the EZ tag lanes. Of course, that's just like stopping in the fast lane on a regular highway.

"Please don't stop in those lanes," said Lt. Terry Albritton of the Harris County Precinct 5 Constable's Office.

The Toll Road Authority showed us on video examples of simple mistakes that could have ended badly when drivers got caught in the EZ tag lane without an EZ tag, taking huge risks.

The most dangerous is an instance we saw where the driver just parked the car, got out and ran across at least three lanes of moving traffic [WATCH VIDEO]. The person had a brief conversation with the booth attendant and then ran back.

Tollroad officials hope you'll never stop when traffic is speeding by.

"They need to keep going, call a tag store or go by a tag store. They'll work out the violation with you. It's much better than getting hit in the lane," said Lt. Albritton.

It is important to note that the toll booth attendants cannot take your money if you are not in their lanes, so don't stop. Just keep on going and take care of the violation by calling the violations department at 832-590-6849.
