Several units were damaged off Jacquelyn and Amelia in northwest Houston. Many of the victims are women and children.

Arson investigators say an electrical problem may have started the fire at the Santa Maria Home. The fire started in second floor apartment around 3pm Sunday. All of the women and children who live there got out of the building ok, no one was injured.

Because the fire spread to the attic of the building, extra fire fighters were brought here to help control the blaze.

"The arson team has determined it was electrical in origin," said Kay Austin, the CEO of Santa Maria. "It only affects one residential unit, we many, but just one so we are thankful for that."

The women who live at the building are recovering from drug and alcohol problems. The owners say there are enough vacant units in neighboring buildings to house everyone who was affected by the fire.
