Galv. students to have class on Saturdays

GALVESTON, TX The Commissioner of Education allowed all districts affected by Hurricane Ike to dismiss 10 instructional days that students and staff would not be held accountable for during the 2008-2009 school year. However, GISD schools could not resume classes until eight days beyond the ten already approved by the state.

On November 24, Superintendent Lynne Cleveland met with the Texas Education Agency to present a proposal to make up these days. The Commissioner has determined that the addition of the three following dates will satisfy the agency's ruling as a complete instructional calendar for the 2008-2009 school year.

The added mandatory make-up dates for all students and staff are listed below.

  • Saturday, January 24 - 8:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided for all students
  • Saturday, February 28 - 8:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., breakfast, lunch and transportation will be provided for all students
  • Monday, April 13 - (normally scheduled as a "Weather Day") will be a regular instructional day for all students and staff
