Police have identified the victim as Jessica Garcia, 33. They are questioning a possible suspect. He has not been charged so they're not releasing his name, but they think he's the one who strangled Garcia to death and left the wire hanger twisted around her neck.
Danielle Berryman is still rattled.
"It's horrible, I don't know why someone would do something like that," she told us. "It freaks me out because it's right here."
A brutal murder has hit too close to home.
It was yesterday afternoon after a resident at the Cambridge Court Apartments alerted management about a woman slumped over in a yellow Chevy Cavalier that emergency crews discovered she had been strangled to death. Homicide detectives say she still had a wire coat hanger twisted around her neck. They believe she was killed elsewhere and brought here, but so far no one, including police, knows why.
"It's kind of weird to come to these apartments and drop her off here," said resident Yuri Aguilar.
Aguilar has lived here four years and she's never seen the yellow car before. Investigators say neither the victim nor their suspect lives at the complex, though that's little comfort.
"It worries me a lot," Aguilar said. "It worries me because I have my family here."
So disturbed, Danielle was changing the locks on her apartment door. She's not sure how long it will take her to get over what happened just below her balcony.
"I was afraid to come home last night, did not want to come home," she said.
