Investigators say the female officer pulled a car over on Red Bluff and Randolph. They say the driver got out and charged at her.
The officer tried to shoot the man with a Taser and missed. Investigators say she then pulled a gun, and that's when investigators say the man went after the female officer's handgun.
"He grabbed her, turned a gun around on her as it was in her hand. She was able to break away and she responded with one round of gunfire which struck the suspect in the left shoulder," said Captain Bud Corbett with the Pasadena Police Department.
They say the man, Raymond Daniels, immediately surrendered. He's now in a hospital. The officer suffered broken finger.
A second person in the vehicle isn't facing any charges because he cooperated with police.
