Robert Wright held out his arm for the 100th gallon in the Woodlands Friday. The Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center held a celebration to honor Wright's commitment.

The center says fewer than 20 Texans in the region have reached 100 gallon milestone. That's the equivalent of getting pricked 800 times to donate a pint at a time.

"It's an easy thing to do," Wright said. "It doesn't cost me anything to speak of. And it seems to be a big help for a lot of people. I started doing it in about the mid-80s and been doing it ever since then."

Wright says he subjects himself to the needle every two weeks to give either blood or plasma, which can be donated more frequently. If you'd like to donate blood, you can contact the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center.
