The motorcycle rider was spotted going at an extremely high rate of speed moments before losing control on the ramp from the Gulf Freeway northbound to the Beltway eastbound. He fell off and his bike went down the ramp for another 1,000 feet before coming to a stop.

Investigators found the man's helmet hanging on the back of the bike.

"It's one of those things to where it's not going to make a difference at the back of a motorcycle, but it will make a big difference on your head. I've been on them numerous times before where the helmet could have made the difference," said Capt. John Ray with the Harris County Precinct 8 Constable's Office.

The biker was taken to Ben Taub Hospital in extremely critical condition, but was later pronounced dead.
