Teacher found guilty of sex assault

James Mayes was convicted Monday afternoon on charges that he fondled the seventh grader during a school trip back in 2003. The girl claimed he also had sex with her at her home a year later.

The punishment phase is underway. Mayes faces everything from probation to 20 years in prison.
