Fire breaks out at Deer Park plant

It started around 7:15am inside a furnace at the Oxy Vinyl plant on Tidal Road near Highway 225. Plant officials say as a precaution, they called for a shelter-in-place in nearby communities. It has since been lifted. We're told the fire was quickly contained and posed no threat to anyone.

"We have accounted for all of our employees and contractors and there's no reported injuries," said Stegmann Plant Manager Karen Anne. "We've notified all agencies and local municipalities to coordinate and mitigate this incident."

Plant officials say the furnace involved in this morning's fire helps produce feedstock material.
