/*Judge Emmett*/ was one of the few Harris County Republicans who came out victorious in the November elections. He defeated Democratic challenger /*David Mincberg*/ in a hard fought campaign.

The person doing the honors in the swearing-in is /*Pat Lykos*/, elected district attorney over former /*HPD Chief C.O. Bradford*/.

Soon after the swearing in, Emmett got right to work, swearing in the new district clerk, Loren Jackson, who graduated from law school in 2003. Right after that, the business of commissioner's court got underway.

It'll be interesting to see how things play out in commissioner's court for the next few years because for the first time in a long time, there are both Democrats and Republicans in a lot of the elected offices, which may lead to a tug of war in Harris County politics.
