Garcia declares victory in sheriff's race

Introduced by his daughter, Adrian Garcia addressed a crowd of supporters late Tuesday night. He declared victory over the incumbent Tommy Thomas and vowed to restore the public's trust in the department.

Garcia said he considers it a great honor to become the next sheriff of Harris County. He also has plans to improve safety.

Garcia's victory is also historic. He will be the first Hispanic sheriff in Harris County. The city councilman said he hopes make the department representative of the county it serves.
