Ex-boxer gets probation for 2007 death

AUSTIN, TX The 22-year-old fighter was convicted Oct. 22nd for his role in the beating of 40-year-old David Rivas Morales during a dispute in an Austin parking lot. Colvin had been charged with manslaughter, but jurors found him guilty of the lesser charge of aggravated assault with serious bodily injury.

Police have said Morales died of blunt-force trauma to the head after being attacked while trying to protect a driver who struck and injured a toddler.

A 16-year-old boy who also punched Morales admitted to manslaughter in juvenile proceedings and received eight years of probation.
