Breathalyzer scandal moves teacher from class

HOUSTON Deetrice Wallace is accused of failing to properly calibrate the breathalyzer machines used by eight area police departments. Wallace was hired as an independent contractor to check and calibrate the machines every month. Officials say Wallace faked her records for up to a year, possibly affecting more than 2,600 cases.

In 2007 Wallace was named Harris County Teacher of the Year. She has been reassigned to an HISD district office while the case is being resolved.

District Attorney Kenneth Magidson says more charges may be coming.
