SWAT standoff ends in deadly shooting

HOUSTON Houston police were called to a home on West Little York near Carver on reports of a disturbance. Two hours later, the man in question was dead.

The deceased man's brother called for help before dawn after he says his brother became combative. He said he had taken drugs during the night, but the bigger problem was that he had a rifle, according to police. Officers say the man pointed the rifle at them and that's when SWAT officers were called to the scene.

Officers say the man refused to talk to negotiators and finally pointed the rifle at authorities again. A SWAT member fired a shot and struck the suspect once.

"We again observed the suspect raise his rifle a second time and that it was at that point the officer discharged his weapon again, striking the suspect," said HPD Spokesperson Gabriel Ortiz. "A SWAT team entered the residence and discovered that the suspect was deceased."

The name of the suspect hasn't been released. The incident was described as a disturbance call initially and it may have turned into a suicide call as well.
