Phillies are champions of baseball

PHILADELPHIA Shortstop Jimmy Rollins seemed to speak for all of Philadelphia when he said after the game: "It's over."

Rollins says the key for the Phillies was their "determination" to endure the inevitable ups-and-downs to win the National League East. The Phils then beat the Milwaukee Brewers and L.A. Dodgers in the NL playoffs before winning the World Series in five games.

Closer Brad Lidge completed a perfect season on the mound by striking out Eric Hinske in the ninth to end it. Lidge successfully closed all 41 save opportunities in the regular season and all seven such tries in the postseason, including two in the World Series.

Asked how he did it, Lidge said: "With the help of all these guys out here, that's how I did it."

It's the second World Series title for the Phillies in the 126-year history of the franchise, and their first since 1980.
