Washburn Tunnel back open

GALVESTON, TX The tunnel, which is a main way to cross the Houston Ship Channel, reopened around 5am Saturday. It was flooded during Hurricane Ike. Safety inspectors had to replace lights and cameras inside of it.

The tolls for the nearby Ship Channel bridge were suspended while the Washburn Tunnel was closed. Those tolls will resume next Wednesday.
