Two fatal shootings in grocery parking lot

FORT BEND COUNTY Detectives passed out flyers and talked to customers coming out of the Kroger store at Highway 6 and Bissonnet Tuesday night.

Investigators say the man on the flyer killed two innocent people last week. Deputies say the first, Avelino Diaz, 31, was waiting in the car for his wife while she went into Kroger when the man shot and killed him. Earlier detectives say Kim Bui, 31, was shot and killed during an apparent carjacking while she was with her husband.

The sheriff's department hopes face to face contact with the community will provide leads.

"It's a great opportunity for them to speak directly and hopefully maybe the community may feel a little more comfortable about talking to them outside the area of our office," said Terrain Carlson of the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office. "Hopefully it will generate [something] our investigators can follow up on so that they can find this guy."

Investigators say the suspect was on foot and believed to be alone. He is considered dangerous. "I wish they had more security around here," said shopper Thuy Ho. "Anywhere you go its going it could be something happening to another person."

Crime Stoppers and Kroger are offering a combined reward of $10,000 for information leading to an arrest. Call 281-342-TIPS with information on this case.
