Stretch your dollar on fashion trends

HOUSTON If you want to wear the hottest fall trends when it comes to shoes and accessories, you don't have to spend a whole lot. You can get the same look for less as we stretch your fashion dollar.

Fringe is in. So are riding and slouch boots, reptile shoes and the launch of the "shootie."

Stevie Bingham, owner of Bella Boutique, explained, "It's a hybrid. It's a mix between a shoe and a boot."

Bingham says the look this fall consists of over the top, bold statement pieces.

"Big and fabulous, or tons of layers is what we are seeing for fall," she explained.

The fringe boot is the hottest look for fall. At DSW we found a Steve Madden boot for $99.99, but at Payless, we found the same look for $39.99.

Ugg boots are still hot and while the originals go for about $160, the knock-off at Target is $24.99.

"They are on trend," Bingham said. "They have got some great product at a reasonable price."

If those looks are too trendy for you, tall riding boots are classic, and very "in." At DSW we found the look for $99.95, while at Payless a similar boot is $44.99.

If you're really on a tight budget and just want to spend a few bucks to update your fall look, Bingham says grab something bold and gold. Gold layered necklaces are a hot look this season. At Bella Boutique we found the designer look worn by the ladies of "Sex and the City" for $575. But at SW Trading on Harwin Street we found the same look for seven bucks.

Another way to update your outfit is a gold cuff bracelet. A designer one costs $188. But a similar look from Charming Charlie's sells for around $6.

Our fashion expert says trends come and go, so don't spend a lot on one trend -- because as they say in fashion, one day you're in and the next day you're out. That can get very expensive, very fast!
