Help for homeowners with post-Ike insurance

HOUSTON The Texas Department of Insurance is getting hundreds of calls from homeowners who say their company has not sent out an adjuster yet. Typically an insurance company has about two weeks to respond to a claim, however because of the size of this disaster, insurance companies have 30 days to start the process. Another complaint is denied claims or offers that are too low, But there is help available.

"We are really encouraging folks if they are having problems with their insurance company and don't think they are not responding appropriately to their claim to contact the Texas Department of Insurance and let them know about companies that are lagging in those process," said Martha Orozco with Lone Star Legal Aid.
