Trail of oil leads police to hit and run suspect

HOUSTON An SUV collided with a car at the intersection of Avenue E and 78th Street late last night. The crash tossed a toddler in the car out into the street.

The driver of the SUV took off, but since the vehicle was leaking oil, police were able to find it and make an arrest.

"Officers followed a trail of oil from the suspect's vehicle," said Sgt. Kevin O'Brien with the Houston Police Department. "A possible suspect was taken into custody and is being processed for possible DWI."

The toddler went to the hospital, but we don't know the child's condition. The suspect is facing failure to stop and render aid charges.
