Man arrested in theft of generator

HOUSTON On Wednesday September 24, 2008 an anonymous informant called the Crime Stoppers Tip Line and provided information that Billy Underhill was responsible for the theft of a generator belonging to AT&T.

AT&T began restoring telephone connections throughout the city after Hurricane Ike rumbled through Houston and surrounding areas. AT&T placed numerous generators throughout the streets of Houston in their quest to restore service to their customers. The informant called with the name and location of Billy Underhill. This information was passed along to investigators with the Houston Police Department's Burglary and Theft Division.

During the investigation it was discovered that a diesel generator, as well as several other stolen items were in Underhill's possession. The generator was positively identified by an AT&T representative as being their generator that was taken without their consent.

On September 25, 2008 Billy Underhill was charged with theft of the generator and is currently out on bond awaiting trial. The investigation is continuing in an attempt to identify the owner of the other stolen items and additional charges may be filed.
