Police say the driver of an SUV crashed into a car on Richmond Avenue and Eldridge Parkway late last night. The mother of a little girl died on the way to the hospital. The child and the other driver were not seriously hurt.

Police believe non-working traffic lights, knocked out by Hurricane Ike, contributed to the fatal crash.
