Sixteen hurt in fire at apt. for elderly

Officials in Waterbury, Conn., say 16 people have been injured in an early morning fire at an apartment building for the elderly. The two-alarm fire was reported shortly before 4 a.m. Thursday. Fire officials say the blaze started in a first-floor apartment and sent smoke throughout the four-story building.

Authorities evacuated the building, and firefighters rescued several people through their windows.

Officials say two of the injured have been taken to a burn treatment center.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
