Stein declined Wednesday to give more details. He did not say what prompted the arrest nearly 10 months after the disappearance of Leta Lynn Cordes, of Mission Viejo, California.
Frank Cordes has told police he last saw his 49-year-old wife when she went to a hotel to gamble after a night of drinking. The hotel says she never arrived.
Extensive searches have turned up no sign of the missing woman.
