Obama asks thousands to help Gustav victims

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is asking hundreds of thousands of supporters to give money to the American Red Cross to help victims of Hurricane Gustav. Obama sent an e-mail to supporters on Monday saying that: "At times like this, it is our compassion and resilience that define who we are as a nation." He urged supporters to "give whatever you can afford, even $10, to make sure the American Red Cross has the resources to help those in the path of this storm."

Obama's campaign would not say how many people received the e-mail, but the Democratic nominee said Sunday that he thought he could rally "a couple of million" volunteers.
