Ex-cop gets probation for fondling girl

FORT WORTH, TX David Ryan Babb, 23, pleaded guilty Friday to indecency with a child/fondling. As part of the plea agreement, he must take sex offender classes and will have to register for life as a sex offender, prosecutor Kim D'Avignon said.

Deferred adjudication means that if Babb completes his probation, the case will be dismissed and there will be no conviction on his record, although the arrest will remain.

Babb's attorney, Navid Alband, declined to comment.

Investigators have said Babb spent the night at a fellow Fort Worth officer's home during a gathering last summer because he was too drunk to drive.

The next morning, the 9-year-old girl told her parents that Babb had gone into her room during the night and touched her arm and genital area outside her clothing.

Her 12-year-old sister told authorities that Babb had entered her room and touched her back, hair and arm.

Babb had told internal affairs investigators that he was heavily intoxicated and did not recall going into either girl's bedroom or touching them.

Babb was fired in December, about a year after he was hired, following an internal investigation.
