Police say they arrested hundreds of people at the Notting Hill Carnival, one of Britain's biggest street festivals. The Metropolitan Police said Tuesday that 330 people were arrested over the two-day event in London for offenses ranging from drunkenness and possession of drugs to assault and disturbing the peace. In addition, 150 people were arrested on their way to the carnival.

At one point on Monday -- the second and main day of the carnival -- the Metropolitan Police had to dispatch officers in riot gear to deal with a group of about 40 troublemakers.

More than a million people attended this year's event, which celebrates Caribbean culture and features elaborate floats and processions of brightly dressed calypso dancers.
