Flea market fined for safety violations

HOUSTON Houston police and fire investigators checked out the New Flea Market on Longpoint Road near Pech Road. Authorities then wrote two dozen citations for stands which lacked permits and fire extinguishers.

"We saw propane on the ground and that's probably one of my biggest concerns, because I've read so much about propane exploding and leveling two or three blocks," said Houston City Councilwoman Toni Lawrence.

Councilwoman Lawrence says Houston's lack of zoning laws contributes to the problem.
