Tip leads to arrest of man who ditched kids

HOUSTON A local citizen watching the morning news called Crime Stoppers before 8:30 a.m. with the location of Ricky Lynn Moffett, wanted for child endangerment. Moffett had slammed and locked an apartment door in the 2400 block of Bammelwood when a Harris County Sherriff's Deputy confronted him as he opened the door back on Wednesday, August 13. The deputy smelled burnt marijuana coming from the apartment, and saw three young children inside before Moffett closed the door.

Moffett left through a back window before back-up deputies arrived, and the three crying and frightened children, ages 8, 6, and 4, opened the door. Officers found marijuana and other narcotics-related instruments in the apartment.

Moffett was charged with three counts of child endangerment. The tipster gave information regarding his whereabouts, which was forwarded to officers in the field immediately after Moffett's warrants were verified. Field officers contacted Crime Stoppers at 10:30 a.m. to advise that Moffett was arrested at an apartment in the 6700 block of Bennington, and was in custody.
