Hydrant problems hinder firefighters

HOUSTON The two-alarm fire broke out on Rampart near Gulfton in southwest Houston Saturday afternoon. Firefighters say the flames damaged four units in one building and spread to two more units in an adjacent building. Firefighters experienced a slight delay getting water set up at the scene.

"They did catch one hydrant that didn't have any water in it. We're going to notify the water department of that. They'll deal with it," explained Houston Fire Department District Chief Tommy Dowdy. "Obviously that always delays water supply if you catch one, and you don't get anything out of it."

Everyone got out safely. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
