Missing teen found, sex offender arrested

A teenage runaway considered endangered after police learned she may be with a registered sex offender has returned home safely, police said Thursday. Stephanie Herrera, 15, showed up at her El Paso home about 1:30 a.m., Officer Chris Mears said.

Roger Dale Johnson, a 22-year-old sex offender wanted for failing to register with police, was arrested later in the day at a laundry mat. He has been booked into the El Paso County jail on the outstanding warrant. Johnson has not been charged with a crime in connection with Stephanie's disappearance.

Stephanie was reported as a runaway on July 2, but investigators announced Wednesday that she was considered endangered after learning about her relationship with Johnson.

According to state sex offender registration records, Johnson was convicted in 2005 of indecency with a child by sexual contact. The victim in that case was 7 years old, according to state records.
