UT retires jerseys of Young, Durant

AUSTIN, TX Young, who wore No. 10, was the quarterback of the Longhorns' 2005 national championship team. Durant, who wore No. 35, played only his freshman basketball season for the Longhorns, but was the consensus national player of the year in 2006-07.

The school said Friday it also will retire the numbers of seven other former athletes. They are quarterback Bobby Layne (No. 22), linebacker Tommy Nobis (60), basketball player Slater Martin (15) and baseball players Burt Hooton (20), Greg Swindell (21), Brooks Kieschnick (23) and Scott Bryant (25).

Texas stars whose jerseys were previously retired are basketball player T.J. Ford (11), football Heisman Trophy winners Earl Campbell (20) and Ricky Williams (34) and pitcher Roger Clemens (21). Clemens and Swindell are dual honorees.
