Beating leads to deadly shooting

A fight erupted into gunfire overnight and one man was shot and killed. According to police, the victim started arguing with two women outside an apartment complex on West Tidwell near West Sunforest in northwest Houston. Some other people came over and they started hitting him with a metal chair.

The victim ran away, and one person fired several shots.

"Witnesses heard between four and five gunshots," said Sgt. J.M. De La Cruz with the Houston Police Department. "The complainant sustained a minimum of three gunshot wounds."

Police have not determined what led up to the fight. None of the suspects have been caught, and investigators say no witnesses saw the shooting.

The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is pending notification to family members by the Harris County Medical Examiner's Office.
