Express infielder gets PCL All-Star nod

ROUND ROCK, TX Saccomanno was named in place of Albuquerque third baseman Dallas McPherson, who withdrew from the all-star game Thursday for personal reasons. He will join teammate Josh Muecke in Louisville for the Wednesday, July 16 contest which will be broadcast on ESPN2 at 6pm.

The Houston native and former Baylor Bear was selected by Houston in the 23rd round of the 2003 draft. He batted .324 in his first professional season and finished first in the Carolina League with 229 bases in 2004, the same year he made his first All-Star appearance for Single-A Salem. A year later, Saccomanno led the Double-A Texas League with 36 doubles.

He batted .277 with 22 home runs and 85 RBI in his first Triple-A season last year.

Saccomano has paced the Houston Astros organization offensively for much of the 2008 season while switching between first and third base. His 21 home runs and 66 RBI are tops among Houston's system and his .298 batting average ranks in the top 10.

Saccomanno, 28, has 30 multihit games, including nine with three or more base hits. He leads the Express in home runs, RBI and runs (61) and has spent 62 of his 92 games at third base, a position he moved to for the 2008 season.
