Man shot, robbed while getting gas

HOUSTON It happened at the Chevron on Westheimer and Hillcroft. According to witnesses, three men pulled up to the victim in a vehicle. Two of them jumped out and started robbing the man. When the victim fought back, the third suspect shot him in the back.

The suspects then took off, one of them taking the man's truck.

"Me and my partner were driving through the area looking for the vehicle," said Sergio Campos with the Houston Police Department. "We spotted a vehicle that matched the description of the truck that was stolen. We got behind the vehicle, attempted to pull it over."

At that point, there was a short chase that ended near Corporate and Beechnut. The suspect jumped from the truck and ran down to the bayou, where police believe he threw the gun that was used to shoot the victim. That suspect was captured and the gun has since been recovered.

The victim was transported to the hospital where he underwent surgery. He is listed in critical condition.

Investigators believe the victim was followed to the gas station because the suspects did not try to rob him until after he had gotten and paid for his gas.

Police caught up with a second suspect but a third remains on the loose.
