Captain on trial for alleged evidence tampering

HOUSTON The judge in the case hopes to get things going. Jury selection will begin either this afternoon or first thing tomorrow morning.

The indictment against Cannon was for allegedly tampering with evidence that stems from a two month investigation in late 2007.

According to a letter sent to Eyewitness News, Cannon was under investigation for allegedly releasing a woman who was arrested following a domestic dispute.

She was released because she apparently knows Precinct 4 Constable Ron Hickman. Assault charges were later filed against that woman however, no indictments were handed down against anyone else within the Precinct 4 constables office.

Cannon lost his status with the police commission and is currently on desk duty.

A judge hopes to have jury selection seated by tomorrow morning.
