Thieves on crime spree targeting ATMs

HOUSTON Since May 11, 2008, there have been at least eight thefts of ATM machines from businesses in the Houston Area. Five to 10 unknown suspects are involved in the thefts.

On one occasion, the suspects pried open a sliding entry door to access a store. They have also crashed through the front windows of a business and carried the ATM out to a waiting vehicle. On occasions they hooked a chain to the machine and pulled it out of the business into a parking lot with a truck, van or SUV, and then loaded it into that vehicle. All vehicles used have been stolen.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information called in to the 713-222-8477 tips hotline that leads to the identification, arrest and charging of any suspects in this case. All callers remain anonymous.
