Jail escapee captured by police

HOUSTON Investigators say Patrick Bigelow from Katy escaped from a jail in Fayette County. They say he overpowered a female corrections officer today and took her keys. He was being held on robbery charges.

It is believed that Bigelow had outside assistance and a getaway vehicle.

The Fayette County Sheriff Office said Bigelow allegedly robbed two banks in College Station after his escape. At a third bank, Bigelow allegedly walked in, then out, apparently without robbing the bank.

At around 12:30 PM Monday afternoon, the Gulf Coast Task Force started surrounding the "Guest Inn" in the 6000 block of the North Freeway just north of Tidwell in north Houston. They secured the parking lot of the motel and began looking for Bigelow and a person he allegedly kidnapped.

The Houston Police Department said that the Texas Department of Publix Safety got a tip that Bigelow was at this hotel. As they surrounded the place and prepared to search for him, he happened to walk out right into waiting law enforcement.
