Thieves steal 500 gallons of gas from car wash

HOUSTON Nick Thornton was opening Bubbles car wash in northwest Harris County Tuesday morning when he noticed a dramatic drop in the fuel storage tanks. Thornton thinks the thief opened the covers of the in-ground tanks, broke the locks and pumped the gas out.

None of the surveillance cameras at the car wash point to the storage tanks but the manager says that will change.

"Repositioning, adding more if we have to taking every measure we can to make sure our gas and our customers and our security is safe here," said Thornton.

This isn't the first gas theft in our area. Someone stole 5,000 gallons of fuel in Fort Bend County in March.

Thornton predicts thefts will become more common as prices continue to rise.
