Longview police Sgt. Shaun Pendleton says the officer, whom he didn't identify, saw a pickup truck late Saturday that matched the description of the getaway vehicle used in at least five heists.
Pendleton says the officer began chasing the suspect, heard a gunshot and waited for backup. They found the suspect next to the truck.
An autopsy has been ordered. Pendleton says no officers fired their weapons.
