Off-deputy constable opens fire on car thief

HOUSTON Someone stole the truck from Gillen near Meyer around 1am. The Precinct 6 deputy was off-duty when he heard the truck start. He was able to fire at the vehicle as it pulled away. It is not clear if the deputy hit either the thief or the truck.

"The car fled the scene northbound, behind us, and at this point we have no information on where that vehicle is," said Sgt. Billy Bush with the Houston Police Department.

The stolen truck is a gold or pewter Chevy extended cab.

The deputy didn't get a good look at the thief.
