Accused killer out of jail on technicality

HOUSTON Juan Gonzalez, Jr., 28, is accused of killing Kevin Alfred, 16, a rival gang member, back in March. Police arrested Gonzalez. He was issued a $75,000 bond last month, even though prosecutors requested he be held without bond.

"We opposed it based on his danger to the community," said George Weissfisch with the Harris County DA's office.

Gonzalez's lawyer told Eyewitness News the judge issued the bond because the DA's office did not file a motion to have Gonzalez held without bond within a week of his arrest. Gonzalez is set for another court appearance on June 17.
