Aldine youngster showcases junior NBA skills

HOUSTON Aldine's Michael Brandley has lived the NBA his entire life. All eight years of it.

To say that he lives basketball? Well, that is an understatement.

"Video games, basketball, TV, basketball, old games, current games, watching the playoffs, all the time outside," said his mother, Susan Smith.

For little Michael, it's pretty much hoops 24/7. His roundball talent recently was on display at the junior NBA Skills Challenge in Orlando.

More than 52,000 young hoopsters entered at the local level. Michael finished third in the nation in the 7- and 8-year-old division.

"Basketball is like a good experience because it took a long way and 52,000 kids tried out and that's a hard experience to make," he said.

Michael, who likes to go by Mike, plays point guard for the North Houston Rockets. He's definitely got some game. His favorite player? T-Mac, of course. And he has a favorite for this year's title.

"San Antonio Spurs, because they're the defending champions," Mike said.

What about Kobe and the Lakers?

"Boooo!" Mike exclaims, with two thumbs down.

Not a Kobe fan?

"No."

Keep and eye out for Mike.
