Off-duty deputy shot outside bar

HOUSTON It happened around 11pm last night outside Ray's Ice House on Lyons and North Wayside in east Houston. The deputy constable, who was off duty, was inside of the bar when there was some sort of disturbance outside. He went outside to check out what was going on.

Apparently, there was a group of females in a car arguing with a group of males in another car. He broke things up and as everyone was leaving the parking lot, a shot was fired.

"A shot was discharged somewhere within the vehicle and the discharged round struck the deputy constable in the leg," said Officer Brian Evans with the Houston Police Department.

The injured deputy constable is doing OK and has minor injuries and is expected to make a full recovery. Investigators don't believe the deputy was the target of the gunfire.

Authorities believe the shot came from the car with the group of males inside. They are believed to be in a gray Chevy Impala, a 2006-2007 model.

If you have any information in this case, you are asked to the call the Houston Police Department.
