HPD cutting officer overtime

Houston police were doing such a good job getting crooks off the street that the city is temporarily cutting officer overtime. The department is slashing overtime city-wide by ten percent until July 1. That's when the new fiscal year begins. Police tell us they blame the cuts on a projected increase in court costs, which are driven by the number of arrests.

The city began the overtime program last year to help the Houston police department deal with a shortage of officers.
