Whitsett wins boys 5A golf title

AUSTIN, TX Whitsett's two-day score of 141 put him four strokes ahead of Ryan Dagerman of Plano West and Ben Thorseth of Houston Strake Jesuit.

The Class 5A girls title went to Casey Grice of College Station A&M Consolidated. She shot a 68 on Thursday and a 76 on Friday to finish at an even-par 144. Mariah Montoya of Lubbock Coronado was three strokes back at 147, while Felicia Espericueta of Edinburg North shot a 148.

The Class 3A girls title went to Addison Long of Andrews, who shot a two-over par 144. Whitley Patterson of Glen Rose tied with Taylor Newin of Frisco Wakeland at 148, but edged her out in a playoff for second place.

The Class 3A boys state title was won by Chase Chapman of Waco Robinson, who shot a one-under par 141, putting him two strokes ahead of Jason Fiscus of Longview Spring Hill and three ahead of Chance Cathey of Gatesville.

The Class 5A boys team title went to Plano West, with a two-day score of 597. Conroe The Woodlands and Spring Branch Memorial finished two strokes back at 597.

Southlake Carroll took the girls Class 5A team title, shooting a 310 on Friday, 11 strokes better than a day earlier, and 631 overall. Lubbock Coronado finished second with a two-day score of 637, followed by Plano West at 644.

The 3A boys team title went to Graham, whose two-day score of 597 was three better than Waco Robinson. The 3A girls team title was won by Andrews, which finished 25 strokes ahead of second-place Monahans.
